Hi guys, just to give you an idea of where we are going next week. Remember you took a handout on Thursday - it's about "Tips for Evaluating Sources" -- it will help you decide whether an on-line source is credible or not. Please read it for next week. I am going to have you bring in three articles you got off the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, using that handout as a guide.
Then I am going to have you list ten questions (if you haven't already) related to your top three possible topics. You will then think of a way to phrase your EBSCOhost keyword search so you can find answers to those questions. By Thursday you will have at least 3 EBSCOhost articles and 3 Internet articles in class with you. I will then have you do some preliminary research and show you how to keep track of your sources using APA format, and what to include on your note cards. So yes, you will need your two sizes of notecards by next Thursday. It will be a lot of information and I might go too fast sometimes, so please post any questions you may have on the blog. Let's keep in touch.
class summary for September 15, 2010 Anne was'nt feeling good today but not siock enough too let us go home!
There was no writing tip today so we started by evaluating one of the two articles we brought in off of Google and then swapped them with another classmate and evaluated theirs.
Anne reminded us the research paper will be dome in steps but you can keep researching. Keep track of your sources with your index cards.
We turned to page 268 in our Easy Writer and learned about the A.P.A. style for listing references and the three styles of sources that well use.
The assignment for thursday was to create a index card and list your references from your Google article on it using the A.P.A. examples. later!!
Anne suggested we keep APA guide basics in mind such as author, year, date.
Our final paper is worth 100 points. The references page is worth 15 points. She wants to see our effort, not necessarily perfection.
Discussed overall view of source cards. One source card (mother source) can have several note cards attached (children).
During class we made 3 source cards (small ones) from our EBSCOhost articles. We then made 2 note cards (large ones) that included article title, date, page or paragraph number along with a sentence or two from the article.
Reminder: APA reference style guide is in the TURQUOISE section of Easy Writer.
We went over the APA style for a database article. We also went over how to list authors and multiple authors: list all authors' names up to 7 authors, connect with & symbol. If 8 or more authors, list 6 authors' names ... then final author's name.
Anne amused us with the letter of no reference that she had received. DO NOT think this is the way to go!! Include your references and do your research for your Thanksgiving paper.
Hello, anyone, anyone? Okay, it is official. Posting to the blog is now an assignment, for which you will lose big-time points if you don't post when it's your turn! Help each other out and post when it is your turn!
Today we started by talking about our workplace reports, these will be due in about 3 weeks
Then we were given an accident and incident report example and we went over what to include in each type of report. Incident-names of anyone involved: workers, bystanders, and the supervisor on duty, date and time, facts or what you believe is the truth, any damages, injuries, and days missed Make sure to put events in chronological order. Accident- names of people involved, list of what happened in chronological order, supervisor on duty, date, time, and injuries. Sometimes it will also ask for advice on how to prevent this from happening again. For both reports you should also try to inclue floor plans, maps, diagrams, or photos you may have
After that we went over how to do APA style using Word 07, Anne will go over this as we work on our papers.
We also looked at pg. 260-261 in the easy writer, which lists what pages is refernce example is on.
