  1. Class summary for October 5th. On the 29th our workplace report is due. It can be an accident, incident, progress, comparison, or trip report. Our language tip of the week was about the word "alumni" and how it changes with gender and plurality. We had a writing prompt about a time we had a brush with death. We looked at an example of a memo. There is a quiz next Tuesday. We worked on a packet about comma splices and run on sentences. We did the first page together and we have to do the second page for class tomorrow.

  2. Thanks Brad. We will have the quiz Wednesday instead because after looking at the sheets I see there might still be a need for clarification. Let;s look at those APA entries you all made based on the books and magazines I brought - we haven't looked at those yet. Yesterday we talked about introducing quotes and paraphrases in your APA paper, and talked about how your paper will be like a string of beads - you are the string and your sources are like the beads. Talked about plagiarism, quotes, paraphrases. See you all next week.

We took a quiz on identifying and correcting run-ons and comma splices.
We were given a handout about the Midstate Paper Contest.
We learned how to format our starting paragraphs to make them go from general to specific. Did an example of this using Canines.
    Turned in our long outline.
For tomorrow we need to bring to class what we came up with for applying the general to specific concept to our own paper.

  5. hi y'all
We went over the comma ,,,,,,splice quiz on Thursday and found out the next grammer unit will be on paralell sentence structure. Personaly, I can't wait!! We also looked over some students outlines and turned in our opening paragraph and introduction of our thesis paper. Don't forget to bring your index card sorters on Tuesday to match your research cards to your outline. Anne's trying to help us unorganized people get organized. Anyone who reads this blog will get a free one dollar bill if you tell me the secret code word.....BINGO!!! good luck!

  7. Tom got to keep all of his dollar bills! Please visit the blog. Post questions here because if you are wondering, so is someone else. Our language tip: It isn't daylight saving(S)time, but daylight saving time (no S). We wrote our prompts on either a parent or a grandparent. Tomorrow, we should bring 4 or more articles concerning our thesis along with our card sorters that have at least 7 or 8 sections. We should have 2 sizes of cards. Smaller ones are source cards and the larger ones are for notes. The more organized you make these, the easier it will be on YOU! Source cards should be APA style (aqua color in Easy Writer). Note cards should include author, year and page.
    How to use sorter:
Have your outline, cards and sorter available. Write each point (Roman numeral I, II, III, etc.)of your outline (complete sentence)on a card. You are, in essence, creating order to your ideas.
Write 1 or 2 paragraphs of your thesis a day.
OUR ASSIGNMENT FOR TOMORROW is worth 12 points. Bring newly labelled card sorter, at least 4 cards with main points of your outline, and possibly a note or 2 on the 4 articles you are bringing with you. WE MEET IN COMPUTER LAB.
Anne gave us each an unparalleled sentence. They sound a bit awkward at best. We had to determine how to make it parallel.

  9. Summary of class 10/26/10

Our language tip of the week: Capital vs. Capitol.
    Capitol-Building
    Capital-Everything else.

We were showed how important organization is by an activity with those wooden beads and a necklace again.
We also did a work packet on parallel sentences that was due at the end of class.

For class on Wed we need 4 sources. We will also start our reference page then.
Two paragraphs of your paper are due on Tuesday in a week. Our final business paper will be due Friday.
